| Context | One or several Scrum Teams are distributed over several locations. |
| Problem | The bar for efficient communication is too high. Either people have to walk too far, or they are forced to rely on the phone, e-mail and video conferences. |
| Forces | too little/too much interrupts during work too little/too communication between Scrum Team members |
| Solution | Colocate the Scrum Team including the Product Owner and the Scrum Master Most people think twice before undergoing the effort of walking to the next building or a few floors up and down, transforming their thoughts into an e-mail, picking up the phone or scheduling a video conference. If the Scrum Team is located in the same room or several Scrum Teams are located on the same floor, issues are solved and questions are answered much faster. On the one hand, one can just walk over to the other team members or even shout. On the other hand, thoughts can be clarified by conversation and additional people can be onboarded immediately. In most cases, people have a natural understanding when not to disturb a collegue, so there is not reason for fearing too much communication. |
| Resulting Context | The velocity is increased by maximizing communication efficiency. |
